Scott de Coste

singer/songwriter/musician/actor

New Glasgow, Nova Scotian musician, Scott deCoste, began his music career early in life. Influenced by his father's family band, the Surfsiders and later the Irish-Traditional Back Water Band, Scott the musician was born. Although not very intrigued by the style of his father's music at the time, the traditional and folk sounds that surrounded his childhood would emanate years later. His palette for original work is something special, something more than just a release of mood or thought of the moment. For deCoste it is a therapeutic medium.

DeCoste performs solo shows for the majority, however is also in several groups. ScotiAL Scene with Al Bezanson & Marcus Cosh, Pistol Packin' Papas with Gavin Scott, Arnold Charron and Al, Kung Fu Trees with Brian Fanning, Murray MacIvor and Al once again, as well as the Decoste family with sisters San & Lihn.

In some form or another, Scott has had the honour of sharing the stage with the likes of Suzie McNeil, Matt Minglewood, April Wine, Ron Hines, Charlie A'Court, JP Cormier, Dave Gunning, Blue Rodeo, Sloan, Doris Mason, Jim Dorie, Spyder MacDonald, Paul Tupper, and many more. He also performed on the 2006 season of Canadian Idol as a top 100 finalist in Toronto. Scott has appeared in ECMA showcases, on Breakfast Television and the Pictou County x-mas daddies fundraiser at the deCoste centre.

"Scott DeCoste used his musical talents to land a spot in an advertising campaign promoting Nova Scotia tourism. "I just threw my guitar in my van and drove down and thought up an idea on the way down," he told the Truro Daily News on Wednesday. The premise of his audition was as a musician he often hears from visitors who say how nice the people are across the province. "At the end of the audition tape, I said, ‘You never know you might get invited to a kitchen party and before you leave you might hear this song' and I start playing Farewell to Nova Scotia," said deCoste, who is originally from Churchville, Pictou County but has called Bible Hill home for the past six years. deCoste, 33, went to Musquodoboit Harbour a couple of weeks ago to shoot the video at the old train station. His TV commercial promoting three summer festivals is scheduled to air June 13. "

"Great Voice! Scott should be singing the Blues for a living. He sounds like the Allman Brothers with more of a Southern Rock flare"
